Cialis Review

Cialis (Generic name: Tadalafil) is used for the treatment of men who experience difficulty having and maintaining an erection (impotence). Cialis is different from other currently approved products for erectile dysfunction (ED) in that it stays in the body longer. Due to its 36-hour effect it is also known as the weekend pill. In combination with sexual stimulation, Cialis works by helping the blood flow into the penis to achieve and maintain an erection. Cialis is not intended for use in women or children. This medication is the third impotence pill after sildenafil (Viagra) and vardenafil (Levitra).

Cialis - How does it Work?

Cialis works by enhancing the effects of one of the chemicals the body normally releases into the penis during sexual arousal. This allows an increase of blood flow into the penis. Increased blood flow makes erectile tissue swell and compress the veins that carry blood out of the penis, resulting in a full erection.

Cialis - How to Take

Use Cialis as directed by your doctor.

  • Cialis may be taken with or without food.
  • Take it only when needed, up to 30 minutes before sexual activity. Do not take more Cialis more than once a day. If you have certain medical conditions or are taking certain other medicines, you may only be able to take Cialis once every 2 or 3 days. Contact your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
  • If you miss a dose of Cialis, take it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as directed by your doctor.

Cialis - Possible Side Effects

Cialis may cause side effects, but many people have no or minor side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

  • headache
  • indigestion
  • back pain
  • muscle pain
  • flushing
  • stuffy nose

Patients who get back pain and muscle aches usually get them 12 to 24 hours after taking Cialis and these usually go away by themselves within 48 hours. A small number of patients taking Cialis also reported abnormal vision. Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); changes in heartbeat; chest pain; fainting; painful or prolonged erection (lasting more than 4 hours); pounding in the chest; severe dizziness; sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes; unusual swelling.

Cialis Precautions

  • Avoid drinking alcohol in excess (eg, 5 glasses of wine, 5 shots of whiskey) while taking Cialis . Drinking alcohol in excess while taking Cialis may cause an increase in heart rate, decrease in blood pressure, dizziness, and headaches.
  • Contact your health care provider at once if an erection lasts longer than 4 hours, whether painful or not. If a prolonged erection is not treated immediately, damage to the penis may result.
  • Cialis should not be used by patients taking nitrates (such as nitroglycerin tablets or patches) or any alpha blocker other than FLOMAX 0.4mg daily because the combination of these with Cialis could significantly lower blood pressure and lead to fainting or even death in some men.
  • Cialis is not recommended for people taking any form of nitroglycerin and most alpha-blockers, other than FLOMAX, because the combination may lower blood pressure to an unsafe level.

Cialis Storage

Store Cialis at room temperature between 59 and 86 F (15 and 30 C).
