Take Viagra exactly as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water. The medication is usually taken when needed. The dose of Viagra is 25 mg to 100 mg taken once per day between 30 minutes and 4 hours prior to sexual intercourse. Generally, it is taken 1 hour before sexual activity. The medication can help achieve an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. Do not take Viagra more than once a day.
Viagra Side Effects
The most common side effects of Viagra are headache, facial flushing, and upset stomach. Less commonly, bluish vision, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light may briefly occur.
Viagra Precautions
You should avoid using Viagra:
- If you take any nitrate-based drugs, including nitroglycerin patches (Nitro-Dur, Transderm-Nitro), nitroglycerin ointment (Nitro-Bid, Nitrol), nitroglycerin pills (Nitro-Bid, Nitrostat), and isosorbide pills (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate. Combining Viagra with these drugs can cause a severe drop in blood pressure
- If Viagra gives you an allergic reaction
- If you have heart problems severe enough to make sexual activity a danger
- If an erection lasts more than 4 hours, seek treatment immediately. Permanent damage and impotence could result
- If you have any loss in your eyesight, seek medical help right away.
Use this medication with caution:
- If you have severe high or low blood pressure, heart failure, or unstable angina (crushing heart pain that occurs at any time)
- If you have a bleeding disorder, a stomach ulcer, or the inherited eye condition known as retinitis pigmentosa.
